Hungry for a gourmet getaway?

To borrow a concept, we’ve always thought that the best way to a guest’s heart is to serve them the best food we can. It would be easy to add “and we’ve got the awards to prove it,” but the fact of the matter is, we work very hard to earn those awards and it means more to us that our guests rave about our food, whether it’s a casual lunch at Lookout Bar & Grille, a luxurious dinner at GOLD or a relaxed in-room snack.

That said, we don’t mind pointing out that GOLD is marking its 20th consecutive year as a AAA Four Diamond establishment in 2014. GOLD is the only Tucson restaurant to maintain this coveted status for two full decades. Since 1985, the AAA Diamond Ratings have ranked restaurants for America’s travelers. Only 2.6% of some 29,000 AAA-rated restaurants reach Four Diamond status, which is defined as: “Distinctive fine-dining. Often a highly creative executive chef, imaginative presentations and market-fresh ingredients. Wine steward often available. Upscale ambiance.”

Thanks to our rich tradition in serving the finest cuisine in Tucson, the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance chose Westward Look Wyndham Grand to host the 2014 Celebrity Chef Showcase. The March 15 event features GOLD’s executive chef, Antonio Rodriguez, along with culinary experts from around the world creating signature food from their latest published cookbooks.

Chef Antonio believes that the best food is fresh.

“We would rather buy from the local companies or at least from in-state companies,” Chef Antonio says. “For instance, all of our bakery goods come from a local bakery. It’s one way we can help to support the local economy. We are also very proud of our Chef’s Garden and a short time ago expanded its footprint. You just can’t serve fresher produce than what you get from your own garden. We try to use as much as we can that is grown here on the resort.”

Westward Look Wyndham Grand began its storied history as a private residence, then guest ranch before blossoming into Tucson’s oldest and finest resort. We continue to serve that glorious tradition, one plate at a time. Bon appetit!
