Tennis vacations in Tucson

Posted on September 17, 2013

The world of tennis vacations is a funny thing. Dedicated tennis lovers visit lush tropical islands, laid-back beach towns, etc., in search of the perfect location for a court that, after all, looks much the same anywhere you go.

But if you want to keep on serving long after summer has left most of the country, Tucson is the place. With plenty of sunny days, many of us can wear tennis whites year-round. But with daily temperatures averaging a pleasant 84 degrees, autumn is a particularly nice time. So if you’re coming this way, make sure to pack that racket!

Here at the resort, our eight championship-size courts (some clay, others hardcourt) are carefully positioned to give you a prime view of the Santa Catalina Mountains. If you happen to be playing near dusk, Tucson’s painterly sunsets can be quite the distraction. If your days must be spent on sightseeing or business, five courts can be lit for nighttime play – the better to enjoy the desert cooling down.

All of this is hardly a secret. Earlier this year, we were honored to be voted one of the World’s Top 75 Tennis Resorts 2013, by readers of Tennis Resorts Online. Based on reviews from real tennis-loving travelers, the ranking is weighted toward tennis, but considers the off-court experience as well.

We were delighted because the ranking recognizes the work of our team of award-winning pros, led by Director of Tennis Tom Lepisto. Tom has been recognized by Professional Tennis Registry as Member of the Year for Arizona. When not at the resort, Tom spends his time working passionately to get today’s kids to fall in love with tennis as he did. (Check out a great interview with him here.)

So if all of this sounds like a nice way to spend your September, check out our Tennis Challenge Package. If your traveling partner isn’t as court-crazy as you are, no problem – our staff will help them find plenty to do (or nothing, because that’s fun, too) in and around Tucson. Our September special will be out soon: Mark your calendar and start planning your Tucson tennis weekend!
